Hurricane Sandy 2012:
The massive storm that started out as Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast and morphed into a
huge and problematic system, putting more than 7.6 million homes and
businesses in the dark and causing at least 20 deaths in the U.S. (Associated Press).

| Domestic Violence Awareness Month |
Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the first Day of Unity observed
in October, 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent
was to connect battered women’ advocates across the nation who were working
to end violence against women and their children. Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, and intimate partner violence is defined as a pattern of abusive behaviors by one partner against another.

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is a collaboration of national
public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government
agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information
on the disease, and provide greater access to services. It is also a prime
opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.
