• SOCIAL ISSUES: A 45 Minute Long Test
  Topic: A long range study that followed children from before they were school age until they were 38 has shown that a test administered to them at age three was a good predictor of whether they would have troubled lives or not. The study was meant to determine if the Pareto Principle was accurate. That principle holds that 20% of a group will consume 80% of the goods of services required by the group as a whole. About 20% of those followed became obese, were involved with the social services or the criminal justice system, which seems to bear out the principle. If this is so, would it be ethical to test everyone at age three in order to intervene in the lives of those whose scores might predict problems later in life?
